Somehow I Manage... The Story of a Blog and a Middle Manager at a Pennsylvania Paper Company


For about a week now I've been struggling with what to name my blog. The original name was "Recipes, Reads, and Reviews". It pretty accurately summed up what I planned to do with this blog but it was quite a mouthful. I had seen some other blogs via Pinterest and had never really paid attention to the witty, creative names. However, now that I had to create one of my own, I realized how difficult it was and appreciated all of those blogs a lot more.

You can't try to name something by just flat out naming it, you have to pretend to stop trying, only then will the name come to you (At least from my experience). Of course I reached out to my friends for help naming the blog because outside creativity can help get around a brain block when you just can't find what you're looking for. Finally, after chatting with a couple of friends, I came upon my "Eureka" name when chatting with my fiance on the phone, my blog was going to be called "Somehow I Manage". Let me explain.

When I was in middle school, my parents started watching this show called The Office, an American remake of a show of the same name from Britain starring Steve Carell which became a cult classic. It was a 30 minute prime time comedy about the average American office worker which spawned many jokes and memes over the years due to its outrageous humor. It was also one of my favorite TV shows growing up. In one of the episodes, Michael (Steve Carell) talks about his autobiography that he plans to write called "Somehow I Manage" featuring all his knowledge about how to be a great manager and awesome boss.

So when I was chatting with my fiance and we stumbled upon this name when thinking about blog title names, I loved this title for several reasons.

1. I just recently graduated college and started my adult life and the transition is difficult (although most people will roll their eyes at you if you say it's hard) and I thought the title accurately summed up my current struggle to manage new adult responsibilities while trying to maintain a social life.

2. I love double meanings and puns, especially subtle ones that make you think about them. Lovers of The Office would hopefully understand the double meaning behind the name and everyone else would think I was just being a restless millennial.

Finally, I had found the name for my blog (and a whole lot faster than I thought I would). Time will tell if this will be the permanent name for my blog, but for the time being... Somehow I Manage. :)
