October Wrap Up and Favorite Halloween Movies
Hello again!
I'm taking a page out of my friend and blog buddy's book by doing a wrap up post for the month of October (Check out the link for her blog below).
I don't know about the rest of you, but October flew by for me. We were still settling in to our new town home which we moved into in September and dealing with the unpredictable weather. Fall is perhaps my favorite time of year because it means that the weather is finally going to cool off (hopefully, I mean this is Florida after all) and it means we are just that much closer to Christmas.
Another reason to love Fall is Halloween Horror Nights. Like most years, we got our Frequent Fear Passes (a great bargain if you're going to go more than once) and headed to Universal. We got out to HHN 4 times this year and got to every house, some more than once, which was great. My favorite house this year was "Scarecrow: The Reaping". It was the most terrifying house I have been to in quite a few years and I hope Universal keeps up the good work with their original concept houses.
With Halloween upon us, I wanted to share some of my favorite Halloween movies. I thought hard about them and decided upon six. See below:
1. Sleepy Hollow (1999)
This movie follows the classic tale of Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman and stars Johnny Depp, Christina Ricci, Michael Gambon, Christopher Walken, among others. This movie is a Halloween staple and I watch it every year on Halloween.
2. Halloweentown
A Disney Channel Original Movie, Halloweentown is a nostalgic classic about a young witch who learns about her heritage and has to deal with her new powers against evil forces with her family. It stars the late Debbie Reynolds who is a true treasure and should definitely be watched if you have not seen it yet (or if you have!).
3. The Craft
A newcomer to a Catholic prep high school falls in with a trio of outcast teenage girls who practice witchcraft and they all soon conjure up various spells and curses against those who even slightly anger them. This is a slightly lesser known movie (at least today) but is definitely enjoyable. I don't want to spoil anything, so check it out!
4. Van Helsing
I love this move. Starring Hugh Jackman and Kate Beckinsale, this is a great take on classic movie monsters. The notorious monster hunter is sent to Transylvania to stop Count Dracula who is using Dr. Frankenstein's research and a werewolf for some sinister purpose. A great action flick with Halloween/ demon vibes.
5. IT (2017)
This is a new favorite of mine. A remake of the classic 1990 film, I truly enjoyed this film's humor and horror. A group of bullied kids band together when a shape-shifting demon, taking the appearance of a clown, begins hunting children.
6. Dracula Untold
As you can probably tell, I love Dracula movies. This is an interesting take on the tale as it tells an origin of Dracula. Starring Luke Evans, this is a great action movie not to be missed. As his kingdom is being threatened by the Turks, young prince Vlad Tepes must become a monster feared by his own people in order to obtain the power needed to protect his own family, and the families of his kingdom.
Moving into November, Thanksgiving will be here before we know it, followed by Christmas. Stay on the look out for my next post and hopefully my first book review in the next couple weeks!
Happy Halloween from David S. Pumpkins!
