November OwlCrate Unboxing
Hello Again All!
I wanted to start off the week with something exciting, my first YA loot crate! The first loot crate to arrive is from OwlCrate. OwlCrate is a YA subscription box that includes a brand new young adult novel, 3-5 high quality bookish items, as well as exclusive goodies from the author. Every box has a creative theme that ties in with the novel.
I was very excited to receive my first OwlCrate because the theme for this month was "Castles, Courts and Kingdoms". The clues that OwlCrate posted on their Instagram about this month's box indicated that the goodies inside would be perfect for lovers of:
Game of Thrones
Harry Potter
Throne of Glass
These are some of my favorite things, so I was very excited to say the least. Upon opening the box, I liked that the box gave you a "Guide to Unboxing" if you chose to listen to their instructions. These included photographing/ videoing your unboxing experience, using their hashtag to show off your goodies, and reading your book. See the picture to the right.

The first thing I uncovered in the crate was the postcard which had the name of this month's crate as well as a description of what was in the crate. It also included a synopsis of the novel, The Glass Spare.

The next item I uncovered in the crate was a Harry Potter beanie! (Underneath all the paper shreds which my cat thoroughly enjoyed playing with). This beanie was created by OwlCrate and is perfect for the upcoming holiday season.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The next item in the crate was a tube of lip balm that was Game of Thrones themed and featured the House Stark sigil and the words, "Winter is Coming". The flavor of the lip balm is blackberry mint which is different than something I would normally buy for myself but will definitely come in handy this holiday season.
The next item in the crate was very interesting. At first, I thought it was a candle but came to discover it was actually soap. This item was inspired by Lord of the Rings and was called "Elven Bread Soap". This item was made by Fizzy Fairy Apothecary and made exclusively for OwlCrate. The scent of this soap is "A bright and refreshing combination of Moroccan mint, garden cucumber, juicy clementine, cyclamen blossoms, lily and cactus. It smells heavenly and I can't wait to try it out.

The next item in the crate made me very excited for two reasons.
1. I love notebooks. I have a very large collection of notebooks, some of which I haven't written in yet but I can't help collecting them.
2. It had a quote on the front from "A Court of Mist and Fury". A book which I just read and loved.
I was a little confused by the design on the front because it didn't really have anything to do with the book series although it is very pretty. (Blueberries and deer?) I can't wait to use this notebook and will probably use it to take notes for this blog! The notebook was made exclusively for OwlCrate by Stella's Bookish Art.
The next item out of the crate was a wooden brooch made exclusively for OwlCrate by Juniper and Ivy Designs. The design was inspired by Leigh Bardugo's Grishaverse. I have heard of this book series but have not read it yet so I didn't really understand the design unfortunately.

One of the last items in the crate was a brochure for this month's crate which was informational and also fun. It included:
A mini interview with the author of this month's novel
The comparison of the book's covers
A word search
Book suggestions if you like this month's novel
An interview with the creator of the Elven Bread soap
The Photo Challenge schedule
A sneak peak at next month's box
This was a great little guide to read before reading the novel and the word search was fun.
The last item in the crate was this month's novel, The Glass Spare by Lauren DeStefano. The synopsis is as follows;
"Wil is the only daughter of a power hungry king, forced to live in the shadows as a spy for her kingdom. One day, when her life is put at risk, Wil discovers she has the ability to turn living things to gemstone with just a touch. When this newfound power causes a tragedy to occur, Wil flees her home in search of answers and a cure. She ends up finding more than she bargained for when she meets a cursed prince from an enemy kingdom."
The novel also came with a signed bookplate and temporary tattoos as well as an author's note (pictured below). This novel sounds interesting, like a fantasy take on the King Midas story. I am excited to read this book and the review should be up in a couple of weeks.
The last item in the box was a postcard preview for next month's crate who's theme is "Seize the Day". The crate will feature an exclusive item from Bookworm Boutique. I can't wait to see what next month's crate will hold! Until my next post!
