November Book Tag
Hello again all!
I write to you from the couch where I have been all weekend because my fiance got me sick (Thanks Pablo). Since I had some down time, I thought I would do something that I have been wanting to do, a book tag. I have a series of questions from another book blog that I will answer regarding my book habits, or in this case my bookshelves. This is the Bookshelf Tag and I originally found it on DreamlandBookBlog. Hope you enjoy learning a little bit more about me and my reading habits. Enjoy!
Describe your bookshelf and where you got it from.
I have 3 bookshelves in my room. Two of them are 3 shelf bookcases and one of them is a 5 shelf bookcase (although my Funko Pop's are taking up 2 shelves). I got all of these bookshelves from Target because they were cheap and sturdy. Soon I will need to replace one of my 3 shelf bookcases with another 5 shelf bookcase because I am out of room.
How do you organize your books?
At the moment they are chaotically shelved because I just wanted to put them on the shelves when we moved to our new place. Optimally though, they would be organized by genre depending on the shelf. It's a mess but I understand the mess! Ha ha
What’s the longest book on your shelf?
Technically, the longest book on my shelves is is Dark Visions by L.J. Smith which clocks in at 732 pages. Dark Visions is a series of short stories in one big compendium. The longest single book I have on my shelves is Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas which clocks in at 645 pages.
What’s the shortest book on your shelf?
The shortest books on my shelves are a duo of books from The Golden Compass series. Lyra's Oxford and Once Upon a Time in the North by Phillip Pullman are the companion books to his His Dark Materials series. These books clock in at 49 and 95 pages respectively.
Is there a book you received as a birthday gift?
I have received a couple of books over the years for my birthday including Leaving Time by Jodi Picoult, The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde and Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro. I especially like this edition of The Picture of Dorian Gray because of its old time-y feel. It's a special edition from Barnes and Noble.
Is there a book from a friend?
Looking for Alaska was lent to me by my friend Lexi when we were in high school and it has been travelling with me ever since.
The Most Expensive Book on Your Shelf?
The most expensive book on my shelf is my illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. I believe it cost me around $30 which is quite a bit more than I usually pay for a novel, but this is my favorite Harry Potter book. (I actually have 3 different copies!)
What is the last book you read?
The most recent book I completed was Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton. Book review should be coming later this week!
Do you have a complete series?
Yes, I have quite a few complete series as well as some almost complete series. My series include; The Alex Rider Series, The Game of Thrones Series (incomplete), The Percy Jackson & the Olympians Series, The Harry Potter Series, The Vampire Academy Series, The Cirque du Freak Series and the Throne of Glass Series. (Not pictured: Books 1 & 2 of the Throne of Glass series which I have temporarily misplaced but I also have copies on my Nook so I count this as a complete series).
What’s the newest addition to your shelf?
The newest additions to my shelf are And I Darken by Kiersten White and The Glittering Court by Richelle Mead. I got them last week on Black Friday while at Target. (I'm a sucker for a good deal!)
The oldest book on your shelf?
That depends on if you are asking about the oldest physical book on my shelves or the oldest book I obtained.
The Oldest in Age: a copy of Pride and Prejudice from 1961
The Oldest I Obtained: Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants
I believe the copy of Pride and Prejudice came from my mother's bookshelves. The oldest book I could find on my shelf was Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by Anna Brashares.
What's your most beat up book?
This is a tie between Alanna by Tamora Pierce and The Host by Stephenie Meyer. Alanna is one of my most cherished and timeless favorite books, I have read this particular copy so many times that you can barely read the spine. This copy of The Host is beat up for the reason that the front and back covers as well as the spine have separated from the book (it just kind of happened!).
What's your most pristine book?
Honestly, it would be probably anything I haven't read yet. I'm not delicate with my books because I think that wear shows love. I had a look while going through my shelves and this novel was particularly pristine although I know I have read it several times. Eona by Alison Goodman is the sequel to Eon.
Do you have any international editions of books?
Yes, I have a copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows that was bought in Italy and looks quite different from my other copies. I lost the copy I had been reading when I left it on our plane when we arrived in Rome. We found an old bookstore and bought a new copy. Now I have a interesting book and a great story!
Do you have a book that doesn't belong to you?
One of my copies of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is actually my mother's. I used to read this copy when I was growing up at home and it found its way into my possession even through it is my 3rd copy of the book. It's my favorite Harry Potter book!
Do you have a book that is your favorite color?
Purple is my favorite color and although there were several purple novels on my shelves, this is the novel that I thought was the most beautiful shade of purple. Awaken by Meg Cabot is the 3rd novel in the Abandon Series.
The first book you read? (The one that got you into reading)
To my chagrin, the book that got me into reading was actually Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. I need to preface this by saying that I read this about 2-3 years before the series went viral. I read the whole book in one afternoon and loved it so much I did the same with the 2nd and 3rd books. This started my voracious appetite for stories and I've been devouring them ever since.
Any Signed Books?
Not nearly as many as I would like! The only novel I have that is signed is The Glass Spare by Lauren DeStefano. I received this novel in my OwlCrate this month, it came with a signed bookplate by the author.
So that's it! I hope you guys enjoyed it. Now, I'd like to nominate my friend, Ashley, to do the Bookshelf Tag on her blog. Your turn Ash!
