March Wrap Up

Hello Again!

Happy Easter! Feliz Pascua! Hope everyone had a wonderful Easter! It's time for my March Wrap Up! I didn't get to read as many books as I would have liked in March but I still read more pages than I thought I would have. I read quite a few books I enjoyed this month (and a couple I didn't) so read on to see what I read this month!

A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab

I started out the month by reading the second novel in the Darker Shades trilogy. I was beyond excited to start this novel since the first book was one of the best books I have read in quite some time and this book didn't disappoint. If you enjoy adventure, magic, pirates, and plot twists, this series is a must read. This is my favorite book of the trilogy and I can't wait to do a reread of this series in a couple of months!

The Queen's Rising by Rebecca Ross

I received this book in my February ShelfLove Crate and was excited to dig in because of the gorgeous cover and because of the interesting synopsis. I really enjoyed the Celtic and Scottish influence in this novel as well as the unique schooling the main character experiences in the beginning of the novel. I enjoyed this novel more than I thought I would and look forward to the sequel which is set to release next February!

Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr

I decided to read this book on a whim. I had originally read this series in high school and remembered enjoying it so I decided to give it another go. This is a great quick read for fans of reads about fairies and dairy lore. I really enjoyed this book because it introduced the characters and the world of this story while setting up the other 4 books. I'm looking forward to starting the second novel, Ink Exchange, although it doesn't feature the main characters from this novel.

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas

I don't have much to say about this wonderful novel because this was my 3rd reread of this book. The 4th novel in this series comes out in May and I tried to hold out until the end of April, or at least the beginning but couldn't wait to reread this book, the 2nd in the series and my favorite. I love this novel and think it has the best character development and dialogue of all three books in the series. I can't wait for the 4th book to come out!

An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

I read this book as part of my buddy read and was really looking forward to it since I have heard so many good things about it. However, I was honestly pretty disappointed in this novel and didn't really enjoy it as much as I thought I would. I thought the plot was quite slow and the characters were underdeveloped. I think the plot suffered due to the POV switching from chapter to chapter and the way that those perspectives were written. Overall, not my favorite read this year and I'm not sure if I'm going to continue the series.

Daughter of the Siren Queen by Tricia Levenseller

I was so excited to read this novel, the sequel to Daughter of the Pirate King, which I read last month. While I really enjoyed this sequel, it didn't have the same charm as its predecessor. The writing felt rushed and it felt like the same formula as the first book without improving on itself. I was honestly kind of disappointed since I enjoyed the first book so much. I still enjoyed this duology thoroughly though.

A Conjouring of Light by V.E. Schwab

The final book in the Darker Shades trilogy, I could hardly wait to get my hands on this novel. At times the pacing felt a little rushed but this had everything I was looking for in a final novel. The end was immensely satisfying and I wish there were more books to read (but I'm glad there aren't because this was a good stopping point). All I can say is V.E. Schwab is a phenomenal writer and this is easily one of my all time favorite series now. Read it now!

Red Rising by Pierce Brown

I started this book on the recommendation of a friend but have been excited to crack into this series for a while. I have heard so many good things about this series and it has such a cult following that I was really excited to start it. I'm not sure if it's wedding stress or not but it took me nearly 2 weeks to read this book (it would normally take me a day or 2). Don't get me wrong, it was definitely interesting but I had a hard time getting through it for whatever reason. Looking forward to the second book though!

Beautiful Bastard by Christina Lauren

The last book I read this month was a quick reread of one of my favorite romance novels. This one is an office romance between two people who can't stand each other and then grow to love each other. This is part of a 12 book series where the same characters are in most of the books and they're all pretty good. This is the first in the series and one of the best in my opinion however. They make for quick reads since I have read them so much and I was in the mood for a non- fantasy book at the end of this month.

While I didn't read nearly as many books as I would have liked to this month, I still read more pages than I thought I had. I'm hoping I can get back to my 13 books a month goal next month but we will see since I'm getting married later this week! Hope everyone has a great week! See you guys on Tuesday!
