May Wrap Up

Hello Again!

May has come and gone and boy did it go fast. That may be due to the fact that I was gone for half the month! I was honestly surprised that I got so many books read with all the traveling but I did! It helps make up for the lack of books I read the last 2 months. Sorry for the late post, this weekend has been crazy with BookCon! Read on to see exactly what I got into this month. Enjoy!

Books Read

1-3. Poison Study, Magic Study, and Fire Study by Maria V. Snyder

I started my month with a reread of one of my long time favorite series, which I believe is highly underrated. I only got through the first 3 before I went on my honeymoon but plan to finish the other 3 next month! I love the way this author writes these characters and the plot is just so unique, it doesn't get old!

4. Texts from Jane Eyre: And Other Conversations with Your Favorite Literary Characters by Mallory Ortberg and Madeline Gobbo

This book was more visual than literative but was quite enjoyable! I was drawn to the title, as Jane Eyre is my favorite classic, and enjoyed the book based humor I found inside. The text conversations made sense if you had read the book but there were a few that left me scratching my head. Overall, this was an enjoyable book that was good for a good laugh!

5. A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J. Maas

Of course I had to read this book as soon as I got my hands on it! This novella in the ACOTAR series bridges the gap between the original trilogy and the new one she plans to write. It was a great little look into the characters lives during the holidays and had some great scenes, as well as some monotonous one. I'm looking forward to the new trilogy!

6-8. The Selection Series by Kiera Cass

This was a spur of the moment reread decision and I loved it. I haven't read these books in a few years and I enjoyed them just as much as the first time. There are a couple of other books that follow different characters following this series that weren't out when I first read these that I need to read now and I'm looking forward to seeing how the story progresses.

9. All the Little Lights by Jamie McGuire DNF

I was super excited when I got this ARC because Jamie McGuire is one of my favorite romance writers. This novel is a slight departure from her norm since the main characters are younger than she usually writes. I really struggled with this ARC and couldn't get into it. I DNF'd it around the halfway point and am not sure if I'll go back to it. I'll definitely reread her past work though!

10. Ash Princess by Laura Sebastian

This was my book club read this month and I really enjoyed it. I was looking forward to reading this book not just because of the gorgeous cover, but because it has a great plot. I enjoyed this book although it wasn't my favorite read of the month. I'm looking forward to the 2nd novel, I have questions that need answers!

11. The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale

This was the first book of my ShelfLove Crate Readathon and I was really looking forward to this fairytale retelling. I enjoyed this book even more than I thought I would and found out it's part of a series that includes other characters from the first novel. I'm adding the rest of the books to my TBR and hope to read them all soon!

12. Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

This was the second book of my ShelfLove Crate Readathon and was my absolute favorite read this month. This book was fresh, adventurous, and kept me on the edge of my seat! I expect nothing less from Laini Taylor and was not disappointed. I can't wait to read the other two in the series next month!

13. Roar by Cora Carmack

This was the third book of my ShelfLove Crate Readathon. I've had this book on my shelf for a while and the cover has tempted me for so long but I haven't had the time. This was also a favorite read of mine this month and I'm so sad that the 2nd book doesn't come out till next June!

14. Caraval by Stephanie Garber

This was the fourth book of my ShelfLove Crate Readathon and I had some trpidation when starting it due to all the hype. I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would and will definitely be reading Legendary. It will be interesting to see a different character's perspective.

15. The Pledge by Kimberly Derting

This was the fifth and last book of my ShelfLove Crate Readathon and a reread for me. I read this book 6 or so years ago and remember enjoying it but never read the rest of the series. I was not as impressed as I remember being the first time but this was not a terrible book overall. I will definitely be reading the rest of the series and hopefully they will be a bit better.

Books Read: 14

Pages Read: 5,084

That's all folks! I hope I can keep on this book binge through next month since I will hit the halfway point on my Goodreads Reading Challenge! I'm currently at BookCon in NYC and will be posting a wrap up of all the great things we got to see and do when I get back, so keep an eye out for that! Have a good weekend everyone! Enjoy this GIF of Harry and Megan's wedding! <3
