The Results
The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale
I just recently obtained this book and have been looking forward to reading it from the gorgeous cover (I love purple). I accidentally did this challenge first when it should have been last but I'm not sure order matters. Although I never read the original tale, this story was refreshing and adventurous. This tale doesn't give in to fairytale tropes and shows determination and struggle on behalf of the protagonist. As this is part of a series featuring other characters from this story. I will definitely be picking those books up.
Roar by Cora Carmack
I have also been in love with this book because of it's gorgeous cover. The nature element of this fantasy was very intriguing and I was excited it fit the challenge requirements. I devoured this book and couldn't seem to get through it fast enough. Its whirlwind plot was breathtaking and kept me on the edge of my seat. I have so many questions still but found out it won't be released until next year.
Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor
Challenges Met: #1
I was excited to read this book because I love Laini Taylor's other work and have heard nothing but rave reviews about this series. This story has a very unique plot that keeps you guessing until the very last page. The bomb of a plot point that hits in the second half will change your perspective on the book and leave you begging to know more. I can't wait to start the second novel. It feels like we're just starting to know this story.
Caraval by Stephanie Garber
This book has also suffered from a large amount of hype. I have been skeptical to start it for this reason but went into it with an open mind. Although the plot was a bit convoluted at some points, this was a thrilling and fun story. The only thing that bothered me was the way it seemed to wrap up too perfectly. The second novel follows a different character in the book and I'm interested to see how that goes.
The Pledge by Kimberly Derting
This last book in my readathon is a reread. I read this book many years ago but never finished the series. During my reread, I didn't enjoy this book as much as I did before. The plot is a great concept but isn't developed very well. It feels quite rushed and I'm hoping it gets fixed a bit in the next book.
Overall, this was a very fun reading challenge. I would definitely be interested in doing something like this again soon or maybe I'll just do this one again and try some other challenges. Hope you enjoyed my wrap up. Look out for my BookCon wrap up next! Now, enjoy this Bob Ross GIF and thank you for joining me today!
