Top Ten Tuesday | Best Books of 2018 (So far)
Hello all! Welcome to my second Top 10 Tuesday! This week's prompt is Best Books of 2018 courtesy of That Artsy Reader Girl. I'm not sure if this means best books published in 2018, or best books read in 2018, but I'm going to go with the latter. Enjoy my list!
10. Daughter of the Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller
The cover of this novel had me convinced it was a childrens novel somehow. I'm so glad I decided to read this anyway because it was rife with adventure and lore. I loved this one just a bit more than the second however, but both are such great reads!
9. Hunted by Meagan Spooner
I picked this up because it was a Goodreads Deal and also for its synopsis. I love fairy tale retellings. I was surprised at the darkness in this novel that didn't overwhelm the plot, but made it far more complex. I can't wait for her Robin Hood inspired tale next year!
8. To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo
Yet another fairy tale retelling, this book also had a dark edge but the development between the main characters and their interactions really sold me. If you loved DotPK, you'll love this one as well.
7. Legendary by Stephanie Garber
A surprising pick for me, based of the first novel I wouldn't think this would quickly become a favorite for me. However, this novel is refreshing, exciting, and mysterious. Definitely worth a read.
6. Roar by Cora Carmack
A total cover buy, this tale of weather magic is so unique and I wish we had the sequel right now. I want to know so much more about this world and the characters in it. I can tell we've only scratched the surface.
5. Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor
This was another surprising like for me. At first I was on the fence about this novel, then it grew on me and fast. I am now obsessed with this series and personally own 5 copies. Can't wait for Muse of Nightmares!
4. Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor
I picked this up because it was also by Laini Taylor and because I had heard such rave reviews. This lived up to my expectations and more. Prepare to be swept away into a world only Laini could spin.
3. A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab
I chose the second book in the Shades of Magic series for the way it adds more character perspectives into the fold and also for the events that take place in this novel, my favorite in a brilliant series!
2. Brightly Burning by Alexa Donne
I received an ARC of this Jane Eyre retelling in the mail out of the blue and am so glad I was selected. Jane Eyre is my favorite classic and this retelling is masterfully written.
1. The Cruel Prince by Holly Black
This is honestly one of the best books I've ever read. I almost didn't give into the hype and read this masterpiece but I'm sure glad I did! A complex tale about a girls struggle to deal with her situation and her emotional issues. The Wicked King is one of my most anticipated reads for 2019.
