Top Ten Tuesday | Books and Hype: Who lived up to the task and who didn't?

Hello Lovelies! Hope you all had a great weekend. It's time for another Top Ten Tuesday! This week's prompt is Books that Lived Up to the Hype. For my list, I decided to do half and half, showing you books that are over-hyped and appropriately hyped. Hope you enjoy!

5 Books That Lived Up to the Hype

1. The Cruel Prince by Holly Black- I was so skeptical about picking this book up and was so happy I did. Seriously one of the best books I've ever read.

2. Daughter of the Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller- I think the cover of this one threw me off, but I finally gave it a chance this year and loved the adventure and piracy. Great read!

3. A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab- I had never heard of this book before February and it's currently my 2nd favorite series (behind Throne of Glass of course).

4. Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor- This is an odd read and I was not into it at first, but it quickly became on of my favorite reads! She has such a way with words and I can't wait for Muse of Nightmares.

5. Legendary by Stephanie Garber- I was skeptical to read this book since I thought Caraval was just meh. This book really changed the way I viewed this world and I cannot wait for Finale.

5 Books That Didn't Live Up to the Hype

1. An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir- I read this as part of a buddy read earlier this year and I really struggled to get into it. I couldn't click with the story or the characters and I just couldn't see what all the fuss was.

2. Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton- This is probably the worst book I've ever read. I thought the plot was poorly developed and I actually laughed while reading it. Not sure how this series has (I think) 4 books. Not my cup of tea.

3. Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo- I was really excited to read this series because of its acclaim. While I enjoyed the second books, the other 2 in the series were just sub par and I do not plan on reading Six of Crows either. Sorry Grisha fans!

4. Heart of Iron by Ashley Poston- I changed my mind, this might be the worst book I've ever read. The plot was so rushed and the characterization of the 4 "main leads" was forced. I was most disappointed in this retelling, especially considering how excited I was for it.

5. Furyborn by Claire Legrand- This book was also a buddy read pick and I was so excited to read this. I had heard great things about this epic fantasy and unfornately ended up DNF-ing it. I may pick this one up again but I don't think it lived up to the hype.

That's all folks! Hope you enjoyed my list and maybe found something new to read. If one of your favorite books was on my most disappointing list, just remember, everyone has different reading tastes! Have a great week folks!
