Top Ten Tuesday | Books to Pull You Out of a Slump
Hey Guys! The prompt this week was hard for me because I haven't found myself in too many reading slumps this year. However my book buddy, Ashley, has had more slow reading times and has read some great books to pull her out of her slumps. Enjoy our joint anti- slump list and hopefully you'll find something new to read. Enjoy!
Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor (Kaitlin)
It's no secret how much I love Strange the Dreamer, so I decided to giver her other series a read and I am so glad I did. DOSAB was a complex and whimsical fantasy in a stellar series. I was amazed how much I loved it and it helped put me in a reading binging mood.
Daughter of the Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller (Kaitlin)
I put off this short read for a while because I didn't think I would like it but I'm so glad I did. I really enjoy this book because of it's light- hearted theme and characters. I would definitely recommend this for a slump.
The Edge of Never by J.A. Redmerski (Ashley)
This is a pretty heavy read, unlike Ashley's other picks and will have you feeling alllllll the feels. This book deals with serious topics but the characters make the story fun. Ashley ships the couple so hard she just flies through the story. When she's done reading this, she's always ready to read something else!
Can You Keep a Secret by Sophie Kinsella (Ashley)
This was one of the first New Adult books Ashley fell in love with. This book is basically a british romcom in book form and is fun and exciting. This is also being made into a feature film!
Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins (Ashley)
Ashley loves Stephanie Perkins books because they make you happy. It's not hard to immerse yourself in the stories and they're so lighthearted and fun. This is one of Ashley's go to reads for when she's in a slump.
My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick (Ashley) This is an easy read about first love but what makes it awesome are the characters. The characters are very real and well written. Ashley uses this book for character detail inspiration when she's writing.
An Enchantment of Ravens by Margaret Rogerson (Both)
I read this enchanting fantasy when I was feeling like I didn't want to read anything. I enjoyed the banter between characters and the adventure. I also enjoyed the faery lore and wish this book had a sequel. This is good is you're in the mood for a quick fantasy!
The Cruel Prince by Holly Black (Both)
This book and An Enchantment of Ravens are somewhat similar which is probably why I enjoy them both so much. This book has a natural charm that makes it easy to get into. This makes it an ideal
candidate for this list and it helped both Ashley and I out of a slump.
Brightly Burning by Alexa Donne (Both)
I wasn't in a slump per se when I read this Jane Eyre retelling but Ashley was and we both enjoyed it so much it had to be shared. This book does a great job of retelling the original and drawing you in with new plot points. If you enjoy classical lit retellings or sci- fi romance, this is a great read for you!
A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas (Both)
I think this one pretty much goes without saying, but this book always makes me happy and pulls me out of whatever funk I'm in. Ashley introduced me to this series late last year and I've read this book at least 3 times. If you love this series, chances are you've probably already reread this book a couple times.
