Top Ten Tuesday | Books that Take Place in School

Hey Y'all! As school starts, it's time to reflect on some literary schools! There are many varied academies, schools, and colleges in literature to look at but here are a few that stood out to me. Enjoy!

1. Alex Rider Series- Point Blanc

The setting of the second book in this series, this academy for the rich in the mountains of Switzerland is a dangerous place for Alex, our boy spy. This is one of my favorite series from my youth and the spy adventures Alex gets up to in this book are entertaining.

2. Vampire Academy Series- St. Vladimir's Academy

This school takes a prominent place in the Vampire Academy series and remains so through almost every book. With its gothic style and modern features, this is the perfect place for young dhampirs and moroi to learn about their skills.

3. Poison Study Series- The Citadel

Although we don't get to the Citadel until the second book in the series, it maintains a main setting in the other 5 books. The Citadel is a massive and ancient structure where the magicians of Sitia go to hone their skills, magically and physically. Yelena, our main character spends quite a bit of time there and even gets her own apartment after the 2nd and 3rd books.

4. Harry Potter Series- Hogwarts

Most everyone I've met has heard of Hogwarts. Some have even been to the large model at Universal Orlando. This is one of my favorite literary schools for its mystery and magical properties. In addition to the castle, there are expansive grounds where more magic takes place. I always waned to get my letter to Hogwarts but it never came!

5. Beautiful Disaster- Eastern University

I just finished my reread of this novel about 2 college students at the vaguely named Eastern University. This college is the backdrop to this romance and is used in other novels in the series as well. While there aren't many details about this college, it is important to the development of the plot.

6. The Mortal Instruments Series- The Institute

The institute is less of a school in these novels and more of a sanctuary. The main characters in this series spend alot of time here training their combat skills and living in the apartments. The outside of this sanctuary is actually a church while the inside has an older exterior with a modern flair.

7. Red Rising Series- The Academy

It's easy to forget that part of this novel takes place in a school of sorts as it's so violent. The academy is a "survive or die" kind of place where the different tribes fight for dominance. This is definitely not the kind of place I would like to attend.

8. House of Night Series- House of Night

This mystical boarding school for vampire/ witches is the main setting of the House of Night series. It's in the name! I always loved this school because of its well rounded curriculum! In addition to regular classes, students learned about magic and even had combat and horsemanship classes. I would have loved being marked!

9. Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series- Camp Half- Blood

After finding out he's a child of the Gods, Percy goes to train and learn about his heritage at Camp half- Blood, a camp for other children of the Gods. The students stay in cabins for each designated God and train together. I always wondered which cabin I would be assigned to if I got to go to Camp Half- Blood!

10. The Queen's Rising Series- Magnalia House

While the main character is only in this house for the first part of the book, it's critical in shaping her passion. It's also where she meets this book's love interest! This academy is critical in affecting her actions through the rest of the book making it very important.
